Acquire Global Outlook

2/5/2014

The next step is learning by thinking. If you are working overseas or with colleagues from a different culture, observe their behaviors. Study up on their culture with an open mind and heart; be sure to stay curious and empathetic.

Then, learn by doing. Forge relationships with those you work with and build a network. Work with and get to know people from different departments in your company, even if it’s not required for your project. Take risks and challenge yourself. That is, go beyond what is expected of you in your daily tasks.

Also, learning your colleagues’ language and traveling outside of your work and home areas will help you learn more about your colleagues’ culture and background, which will help you work and interact with them better.
